The courtroom technician coordinates the visual elements that will be used in the proceedings. Through use of trial presentation software, including a database of scanned and barcoded trial exhibits, the courtroom technician has access to all relevant documents, graphics, animation and video.
Courtroom technicians work with attorneys prior to the
proceedings to establish the specific order and timing of graphic
displays to complement opening and closing statements or
to illustrate a witness’s testimony. In situations where the
attorney needs unanticipated documents or images in their
response to opposing counsel, the technician can also
call up images “on the fly”. The technician’s ability to
quickly execute these commands allows the attorney
to concentrate on the case, and not the technology.
Tip: Technicians should have time to work with the trial team prior to the proceedings. This allows attorneys to gain a comfort level with their technician and gives the technician the opportunity to understand the presentation style of each of the attorneys involved in the proceedings.
